The book "Animation Cinema in Africa" deals with the history and reality of the animation arts which are created by African artists and others who make animation films in Africa. Through research that lasted more than ten years, the researcher tries to cover rare details of important cinematic art, which was not previously documented and studied with such intensity and focus. And through interviews with filmmakers and specialists, the book tries to provide an overview picture of the activity of animation cinema across our beloved continent.
In its second edition (the first was published in the second edition of the Luxor African Film Festival in 2013), the book adds several articles about some contemporary artists and cinematic activities, in addition to an article about African animation artists in the diaspora. This is in addition to an entry by historian Tom Seto who is a professor of animation at the School of Cinematic Arts at the University of Southern California.
Muhammad Ghazaleh
Muhammad Ghazaleh is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Animation at the College of Fine Arts at Minya University. He is also the Director of the School of Cinematic Arts at The Effat University in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia. In addition to being Vice President of the International Animation Film Association (ASIFA), he is also the founder of the association’s regional branch in Africa and the Arab world. Dr. Ghazaleh has worked as a visiting lecturer in many institutes of fine arts and cinema, and he has also participated in several international jury committees in many film and animation festivals. He directed several international award winning films. His film "Khaf Hanin" (2009), won the award for Best African Animation at the African Film Academy Awards (AMAA) in Lagos, Nigeria in 2010.
